Coyotillo (Karwinskia humboldtiana) is a thornless evergreen shrub or small tree that is native to Mexico, the southwestern United States, Central America, Columbia, and the Caribbean. The fruit from the Coyotillo plant contains anthraquinones, which produce segmental demyelination of peripheral nerves in affected birds. The presenting clinical signs will appear similar to those seen in birds with Marek's disease and vitamin deficiencies and include progressive paralysis.
